Lesley Marshall, Associate Director of Design Management at DECIDE, presented her white paper on the unique d3thinking tool (which aims to minimise the commercial risk associated with design development and innovation) at the prestigious 11th European Academy of Design Conference in Paris last week.
[tw-column width=”one-half”]The 3-day event, pushing the boundaries of the design of tools and processes which enable radical innovation, was held at the Paris Descartes Institute of Psychology and Paris Sorbonne University and featured white papers presented by over 300 leading design academics from around the world including Canada, USA, Brazil, Sweden, Switzerland, Iran, Thailand, China and Japan. The conference, which has previously been held in Sweden, Germany, Turkey, Portugal and the UK, featured keynote lectures, parallel sessions, workshops, executive seminars and roundtable discussions on the value of design research and practice.
One of only six papers invited to present in ‘the measuring of design value’ track, the d3thinking tool was presented alongside the conference’s keynote speakers to a capacity audience and was followed with an enthusiastic debate.[/tw-column] [tw-column width=”one-half” position=”last”][/tw-column]
The d3 tool, which measures design, analyses design strategy and identifies white space marketing opportunities by focusing on three key shopper decision biases, is presented in a uniquely visual format which provides an at-a-glance data summary that enables immediate assessment of performance against pre-determined KPI’s within a line of inquiry on an ongoing basis. This process reduces the risk associated with subjective opinion by providing the meaningful knowledge which assists the creative team and client in the creation of effective design solutions.
